Don’t Wait – Just Create

Don’t wait – just create.

That has a nice ring to it, right?

Haven’t we all experienced this? Getting that first draft of anything started can be a tall order. It’s easy to set aside daunting tasks, writing included.

Procrastinating, however, does not make a difficult task any easier.

Just start.

Start writing.

Start creating.

Give life to that first draft.

Such sage advice I read in Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, one of the books I’ve read while staying safer at home. Isn’t the cover lovely? The vibrant colors drew me in. And I’m so glad they did!

My view while reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

She talks about her consistent hard work day in and day out to become a writer. One of her headings in the chapter called Persistence succinctly read:

Done Is Better Than Good

On top of that, good is better than perfect. Imperfect is better than not done at all.

Watch her seven minute TED talk to learn about her journey.

Early on, she eloquently tells readers:

If you’re alive, you’re a creative person. You and I and everyone you know are descended from tens of thousands of years of makers…

We are all makers by design…
